The Shetland Sheepdog was registered in the United States in 1911, though they were first recognized in England in 1909. The Sheltie has become one of today's most popular companion dogs due to their kind disposition, intelligence and willingness to work.

Black, blue merle, and sable (ranging from golden through mahogany); marked with varying amounts of white and/or tan.

The Shetland Sheepdog is intensely loyal, affectionate, and responsive to his owner but can be weary of strangers.
