The Australian Shepherd is an intelligent working dog of strong herding and guarding instincts. It is a loyal companion and has the stamina to work all day. It is a well balanced, slightly longer than tall, of medium size and bone, with coloring that offers variety and individuality. The Australian Shepherd is attentive, lively, agile, and muscular. It has a coat of moderate length and coarseness. Its tail is docked and naturally bobbed.

The Australian Shepherd's origins are vague, but at least one ancestor can be traced back to the herding dogs of Spain, the Basque. Once arriving to the U.S., the Basque was quickly bred with other herding breeds to create the Aussies of today.

Blue merle, black, red merle, red-all with or without white markings and/or tan (copper) points, with no order of preference.

Australian Shepherd puppies are an intelligent, active dog with an even disposition. They are good-natured and seldom quarrelsome. They may be somewhat reserved in initial meetings.
