History
The Standard Schnauzer is the original Schnauzer, progenitor of the Miniature and Giant Schnauzer. The breed was originally created during the Middle Ages by German farmers who were looking to breed a versatile farm dog. Like the world’s other barn-and-stable breeds, the Standard Schnauzers became renowned as ratters, herders, guardians, and hunters.

Temperament
Standard Schnauzers are spirited, sociable, alert, and playful, noted for their sense of humor. intelligent, reliable, and versatile, they can be trained for a wide range of jobs and sport. They are quick learners with excellent problem-solving ability and fierce determination. This is a strong-willed, independent breed, and owners must provide firm, fair, and consistent leadership. Due to their instincts and keen senses, Standard Schnauzers make excellent watchdogs.
